Lecture 1: Course introduction

Welcome to the Insurance policy administration-Part A course of the insurance domain training center. This

course is focused on Personal lines of Property and Casualty insurance. As you may be aware, our mission is to

help information technology professionals improve their domain expertise. We are basing our course design

on the fundamental tenet of imparting conceptual knowledge, process knowledge, and product knowledge.

The main goal of this course is to enhance your process understanding of policy administration.

This Part A course focuses on ‘New business’. There is another course Insurance policy administration "Part

B" which focuses on policy servicing aspects. For students taking this course, a fundamental familiarity of

insurance terminology is expected. Although we did our best to explain those terms in the course, if you are

new to insurance or have not yet taken it, we strongly advise that you sign up for and complete our

"Introduction to Insurance" course. Even though insurance concepts are same across geographies, process and

terminologies differ based on geography. Geography focus of this course is United States of America, which

means, examples of product and terminologies used are more relevant to USA.

Policy administration is a topic that needs in-depth discussion. In order to avoid overloading of everything in a

single course, we have categorized in to two sub-sets- Part A and Part B. This course focuses on New Business.

There will be another course on policy services which is part B will be introduced soon.

Learning Path

There are 13 lectures in this course. All lectures are self-study. We have sub-titles in all lectures to look at. Each

lecture has a document to read (like what you are reading for lecture). Some students are more reading

oriented and some are more visual oriented. So, we have provided both ways to understand. You can refer the

reading material, if you think you need to understand more. At the end of the course, you need to attend a

final quiz to earn a certification. 80% score in final quiz leads to certification. There are no limits in attempting

final quiz. Students have access to the course for 3 years.

You will be introduced to the course, and will be given a summary of P&C insurance and personal lines

products, and brief you on what we mean by "policy."

Section 2 - Big picture

You will obtain knowledge of the P&C insurance value chain, comprehend "new business process" in the

context of the USA, and discover how insurance products and processes are connected.

6. Lecture 6: Product and process nesting

Section 3 - New business process

You will receive an explanation of the inquiry and quote operations, an understanding of personal lines

underwriting and rating and overview of policy issue

Section 4 Policy forms and systems

You will learn more about policy forms and Policy administration system and its peripherals. You will learn

about the technologies that is influencing policy administration.

Once you complete listening to the lecture, you have a final quiz to attend as we said previously. Make sure

that you 'Mark complete' once you finish your lecture in the course page which enables next lecture to listen.

Key points for success in this course

If you are new to insurance domain, we strongly recommend to go through our ‘Introduction to insurance

course’ to familiar yourself with the terminologies used. However, we have provided terminology alerts

wherever required. Also, we suggest you to refer to the reading materials apart from the video. In each lecture

in the course, there is a ‘Post comment’ section, and we will respond to these questions. You can also write to

mentor@insuedot.com , if you prefer to sent an email instead of posting a comment. You will get answer to

questions in both ways.
